Hi, before I purchase the bridge, I need to know if the phpBB2 bridge will work with Joomla 1.5 and Community Builder 1.2. I have an existing phpBB2 site and have a reason for not migrating to phpBB3.

If yes, is there an ability to use the user's real name from CB as the phpBB2 username?

Hi,
as the description page of the component states it's compatible with Joomla 1.5 (but legacy not native), and CB 1.1. It wasn't tested with CB 1.2, so you might run into unknown issues.

And no, there is no way to use the real name from Cb as phpbb2 username. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
Kind regards!

I too have a reason for not migrating to phpBB3 (mail2Forum) so I am also interested if anyone can confirm compatibility with CB 1.2.1

I only ask because this is a commercial product and I want to make sure my committee's money is well spent.

I did notice the previous post but it does not really answer the question fully enough to commit to purchase.

I would like to make the developers aware that although phpBB2 is very much outdated there are quite a few people out there using Mail2Forum and there is as yet - nor in the near future any sight of a Mail2Forum for phpBB3 - so at the moment we are stuck with Joomla 1.0 sites to maintain our phpBB2 integration - your component is exactly what we need to be able to upgrade our sites.

As this component seems to be the only bridge available for Joomla 1.5 and phpBB2, I would request that at least some testing be done to check compatibility with CB 1.2.1 - as that is the only thing holding me back from making a purchase.

Hi,
for your own safety you should always upgrade to the newest version.

Once again: no, it is most likely the bridge won't work with CB1.2 as there is no plugin developed for this version of CB. We don't have plans to do it in the nearest future, because the demand for this component is not that big (since people use phpbb3). If that's the only thing that keeps you from using the component, you can always order a custom modification where we'll develop the compatibility for you.
Let us know if you're interested.
Kind regards!

I didn't mention my reason for not migrating to phpBB3 but it is also because of mail2forum. I think there are quite a few people in this situation, i.e, can't move off phpBB2 until there is an email plugin for phpBB3.

Re:Joomla/CB compatibility 2 years, 3 months ago #11628

You are right - there is a large market out there for a Joomla 1.5 to phpBB2 bridge simply because of Mail2Forum.

But alas developers stick their head in the sand and overlook the market that such a bridge has.

Most likely it will function with CB1.2.1 - but is it worth the risk of me spending the Committee's money?

It is not a risk I can take.

In experience I have found that most CB plugins from previous versions work with 1.2.1.

All I have asked is that someone try it without me having risk wasting our association's money.

To be honest if I was after a phpBB3 bridge there are plenty out there and most are free - so I wouldn't be purchasing this one anyway.

The only attraction to me and dare I say other users of Mail2Forum is the Joomla 1.5 - phpBB2 compatibility.

The developers have a chance here to make some sales in a market that is very much overlooked.

Just out of interest what would such a custom modification cost us? We would be interested, but no disrespect here not if you are out to make a fast buck. We would be interested if it were offered at a fair price, as being a small association we have limited resources. Please bear in mind that in this scenario (Joomla 1.5 - phpBB2,)you are the only players in the game and there is a market for such a plugin as M2F for phpBB3 is still a long way off.

I do not think that developers of bridges really grasp the idea that there are a boat load of people out there who are forced to remain with phpBB2 until a mail plugin is developed for phpBB3 - to most of us our forums are the foundation of our websites. So there is an untapped market place.....

Yes one should always upgrade to the latest version and the latest version of CB is 1.2.1 so in my thoughts if you are going to offer a product for sale it should at least work with the latest version of CB.

Sorry if I sound off handed but this bridging problem is the biggest headache I have had with upgrading my site and I have reached the limits of my frustration.

Hi,
we roughly estimate that this might take us about 6 hours to develop the plugin and fix all the issues together with testing of course. At a rate of $35 the cost would be $210.

We had practices before when the customers split the cost, so there can be different ways.. let us know if you're interested.
We so far don't have resources to make this enchancement. The custom project gives a priority to developing the feature.

If you set the detailed error reporting to Maximum in the global configuration, do you get any errors or still blank pages?
