We are having an issue with the native VM download mod. The current VM module supplied uses PHP to actually download the file which causes a timeout on PHP as it is set at a 25mb limit to protect itself. Rather than passing it off say to Apache to handle. I have a Joomla component called Docman installed and the same file downloads fine from it...just it isn't connected to the cart. Does your component for software updates use the VM default download code OR have you written your own code? Will this get around the PHP limitation for large downloads? We sell 150mb - 350mb FLV files. Does this aggregate multi downloads to one order (one client)?
Thanks!

Hi
Please read the description at www.joomplace.com/joomla-components/versionupdater.html

We always do our own coding and also we have improved the reports from VM adding a lot of extra features.

But this baby is not for selling stuff - it is for letting customers having a way to get updates/whatever AFTER a sale.

Thanks.

Most of all I must know if this will work for large downloads. The server we are on has a PHP limit of 25mb load which affects downloads IF they are coded to be passed by PHP AND the entire file must buffer via PHP. Some download coding works fine, as Docman works great and I can download 300mb files in it.
So, please let me know if it works for files of 100 to 400mb in size. If it does not work for large files may I have a refund?
Thank-You!

Hello,

Our component are relies on server PHP size limits. So if it is 25 then you will be able to upload only 25.

But you can do this using FTP, where you can upload 100-400mb files to the Update folder.

Thanks Vlad!
But I really need these questions answered...I am fully aware about FTP & large \"UPLOADS\" .

I need only to know about \"DOWNLOADS\".
Questions:

- Does it DOWNLOAD files of 100 to 400mb in size.
- If it does not work for large files may I have a refund?

Thanks!
Rick

Hello,

As i have said it all depends on your server configuration: you can set up there 400mb and version updater will be able to handle 400mb files.

Btw, yesterday we've optimized VersionUpdater for working on large sites with 3000+ users.
